Tomas "Tommy" Gonzalez, the father of two young children, is recovering from several surgeries after a double amputation.

"This next chapter in life will be a challenging one for both Tommy as he navigates recovery and for Tina and the boys," according to a GoFundMe page.

The campaign was set up to help Tommy and his family with the financial stress induced by this life-changing event, including childcare, monthly expenses, supplement medical and rehabilitation costs, and accessible living accommodations.

Nearly $45,000 had been raised as of Thursday, Dec. 14.

"Tommy is loved by so many, and we have seen that so clearly in the vast number of visitors that have come to the hospital and the many people who have reached out to show Tommy and our family love and support over the last week," the GoFundMe page says.
